1. How do I apply to Auburn University’s MBA Program?

The application process is two-fold. First, you must complete the Auburn University Graduate School online E-Application (www.grad.auburn.edu). There is a $25 USD application processing fee ($50 USD for international students). Second, return the 1-page MBA paper application form, 2 required essays, 1 official transcript from each school previously attended, official GMAT scores, 3 recommendations, and a current resume to: MBA Admissions. TOEFL scores are required for international applicants. If you have additional questions or need more information regarding your specific situation please email your request to: mbadmis@auburn.edu.

2. What are the application deadlines?

The Priority Application Deadline is March 1 each year for the following fall semester admissions. Late applications can be accommodated and always accepted! Please contact the MBA Program Office for guidance and information regarding your situation.

3. In what areas can I concentrate?

An MBA student may choose electives to obtain a concentration option in the following areas: Agribusiness, Economic Development, Economics, Finance, Health Care Administration, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Production/Operations Management, Sports Management, and Supply Chain Management. An area of concentration is not required but can be earned by taking a minimum of three courses offered in the general elective areas listed. (Not all concentration areas are available to distance/online students.)

4. How long will it take me to complete my MBA at Auburn University?

The lock-step MBA Program requires 16 months to complete and spans from August through the following December. The Auburn MBA Degree requires completion of a minimum of 36 semester hours. There is an Internship requirement for students with less than two years full-time work experience.

5. What does the MBA Admissions Committee look for in a candidate?

Admissions criteria include a 4-year bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, official GMAT score, TOEFL score (international students), undergraduate GPA/degree/institution attended, resume/full-time work experience, recommendations and essays.

The MBA Admissions Committee looks for strong academic credentials and is increasingly valuing full-time work experience. Applicants with undergraduate business degrees are generally more competitive when presenting at least two years of full-time work experience, but this is not an absolute requirement.

6. How many students do you admit to the program?

Admission to the Auburn University Full-Time On-Campus MBA Program is on a competitive basis among all applicants. We expect 125-150 applicants for the 50 seats which are open each year.

7. Does my academic background meet the requirements?

Admissions criteria include a 4-year bachelor degree from a regionally accredited college or university. The MBA Program accommodates students with undergraduate degrees in engineering, liberal arts, sciences, and many other degree areas. However, there are undergraduate prerequisite business principles courses which are required before a student is cleared to start graduate MBA classes. For international students, the Auburn University Graduate School cannot accept a 3-year degree unless the student has also completed a 2-year graduate degree or a 1-year Diploma.

8. Do I have to take the GMAT?

The GMAT is required for all applicants except those with a PHD or JD. There is no minimum score. However, students who present a score of less than 600 are encouraged to re-take the GMAT. ONLY students applying for a dual degree program may present a GRE score in lieu of a GMAT score.

  • Where can I find more information on the GMAT, and how do I register to take it?

Visit the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) website at mba.com or telephone 1-800-GMAT-NOW (1-800-462-8669).

    • How long is my GMAT score valid?

You must have taken the GMAT within the last 5 years.

9. Do I have to take the TOEFL?

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for international applicants. Those who have received university degrees from accredited institutions in the U.S. or from countries where English is their native language may have this requirement waived.

  • What are the minimum TOEFL scores I need to gain admission?

Successful international applicants must score at least 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language paper version (pBT), 213 on the computer version (cBT), and 79 on the internet version (iBT). Additionally, successful applicants must score minimums of 16 on the listening, reading, speaking, and writing components of the iBT.

    • How long is my TOEFL score valid?

You must have taken the TOEFL within the last 2 years.

10. What are the prerequisite requirements?

The prerequisites for the Auburn MBA Program are: Calculus, Statistics for Business and Economics, Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Business Finance, Principles of Management, and Principles of Marketing [See: www.mba.business.auburn.edu]. For students with degrees in non-Business majors we strongly recommend you contact the MBA Program Office BEFORE starting business undergraduate prerequisite courses. We will provide specific information for you which usually alleviates misunderstandings and duplication of otherwise acceptable previous coursework.

Prior to entering the MBA program and starting classes, students must have completed, or otherwise satisfied, ALL of the prerequisite requirements. Prerequisite requirements are NOT necessary for admission. However, if an applicant is offered admission the student would not be cleared to start MBA classes without first completing all prerequisite courses.

The prerequisite requirements may be completed by taking undergraduate courses with a grade of ‘C’ or better from a college, university, or community college in your area. These requirements may also be completed by purchasing some or all of the Certificate in Business Series prerequisite courses from the Auburn University MBA program and taking the competency exam as pass/fail grades. These courses are CD-ROM lectures used to help students meet the prerequisite foundation work. Please note the Certificate in Business Series courses DO NOT carry academic credit but will satisfy the Auburn MBA prerequisite requirements.

Another option is via the standardized CLEP Examinations. Military applicants may also work with the DANTES System in taking standardized examinations.

11. Can I transfer credits from another MBA program?

Students transferring from other AACSB accredited graduate programs must earn at least 24 semester hours of the total hours required for their degree from Auburn University. It may be possible to transfer up to 12 semester hours, which can only be accepted as elective. The Auburn University Graduate School determines which hours and courses are transferable. The minimum grade for transferred courses is ‘B’. Consideration of transfer credits is made during the time a student’s MBA Application is being reviewed.

12. How much is the tuition cost of the program?

Tuition and fees are adjusted on an annual basis by action of the Auburn University Board of Trustees. The rates shown below are for the Fall 2007 semester.

  • Alabama Resident: $2,625.00 (Fall 2007)
  • Non-Alabama Resident: $7,875.00 (Fall 2007)

Student Fees are approximately $200 per semester.

NOTE: A professional fee of $200 per semester credit hour has recently been approved for all College of Business graduate programs, including the MBA program. Within the MBA program, this fee covers a required international study experience and new placement services. For a typical 12 semester-credit-hour course load, this comes to $2400 per semester in addition to tuition and other fees. This may not yet be reflected on other sites that provide program cost information

For international students, the cost is approximately $31,400 per 12-month academic year. This includes non-resident tuition, fees, health insurance, room and board, books, and personal expenses. An Official Statement of Finances must be signed and sent to the Auburn University Graduate School before the student’s I-20 Form is issued and a Student Visa can be obtained. International students who are awarded Graduate Assistantship funding can have financial requirements reduced to approximately $11,600.

13. Do you have financial aid or scholarships available?

The Auburn University MBA Program does not generally offer scholarships or guaranteed financial aid to students, either U.S. or international, prior to admission. However, if admitted, a student would be eligible to apply for one of a limited number of graduate research assistantships. Assistantships carry a stipend of $600 per month (during the 9-month academic year and when classes are in session) and also include full waiver of tuition.

14. How do I confirm that you have received my application materials?

An email notification is sent as quickly as possible to applicants stating which application materials have been received and listing any which may be missing. Additional and periodic updates are routinely sent to each applicant. Should you need information before this notification is sent please contact MBA Admissions at mbadmis@auburn.edu; or, telephone: (334)844-4053.
